State legislator signs up to help save livesApril 25, 2008 For immediate release Normandy Park - This week, the City of Normandy Park hosted its first ever Emergency Preparedness Fair where more than 200 residents learned how to keep their families and community safe. Rep. Shay Schual-Berke joined in the festivities and signed up to become a volunteer emergency worker. Volunteers help local officials respond to disasters in numerous ways and help ensure that communities can count on swift action during emergencies. In 2007, Rep. Schual-Berke sponsored legislation that would expand certain "Good Samaritan" protections to volunteer emergency workers. People interested in signing up for Washington’s Volunteer Emergency Worker Program should contact their county’s emergency services department for information.
