Transportation
Last year, the Legislature made a responsible decision to invest in our transportation infrastructure. The 2005 transportation package pays for safety improvements on at-risk structures such as the Highway 520 floating bridge and Alaskan Way Viaduct. In addition, congestion relief projects are accelerated on Interstate 405 to accommodate the extra traffic from the Viaduct. The following investments in transportation projects are key to maintaining our region's economic vitality and quality of life.
Transportation Projects
Interstate 405 The Interstate 405 corridor is an important transportation link for the Eastside and Puget Sound region. The 2005 transportation package makes improvements on a stretch of I-405 from the Interstate 90 junction south of Bellevue to the State Route 169 interchange in Renton. We depend on the bridge to connect us to our jobs and entertainment venues in the heart of Seattle. The bridge has served our community for over 40 years and is nearing the end of its lifespan. A severe wind storm or seismic event could cause the bridge to fail. The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), the State Legislature and local leaders are working on a bridge replacement project.
