Committees
Human Services - Chair
The Human Services Committee considers issues relating to persons
with developmental disabilities, adults in need of general assistance,
adults in need of drug and alcohol treatment, vocational rehabilitation,
and juvenile offenders. The committee also considers programs and
operations affiliated with certain state facilities and institutions,
including those under the purview of the Department of Corrections, the
Juvenile Rehabilitation Administration, and the Division of
Developmental Disabilities.
Transportation
The House Transportation Committee considers the transportation
budget, revenue sources for transportation funding, and issues relating
to transportation policy and transportation agencies, including the
Department of Transportation and the Washington State Patrol.
Ecology and Parks
The House Ecology and Parks Committee considers issues relating to
climate change, recycling and solid waste management, aquatic lands,
parks and recreation, the State Environmental Policy Act, and pollution
prevention issues associated with subjects such as oil spills and cruise
ships. The committee also oversees the Puget Sound Partnership’s
activities in Puget Sound and Hood Canal.
Environmental Health
The House Environmental Health Committee considers issues relating to
environmental risks potentially affecting human health. Such issues
include environmental toxics (PBDE, lead, mercury, arsenic), mold, air
pollutants, hazardous waste, contaminated sediments, and food and
drinking water safety. The committee also examines whether disparities
exist in the treatment of people and communities in the development,
implementation and enforcement of environmental laws, and the siting of
facilities affecting the environment.
