Democrats deliver

March 14, 2007

OLYMPIA – As the 2007 Legislature passed a major cut-off today, the House Democrats had plenty of reasons to smile.

“We started this session with a clear agenda,” said Speaker Frank Chopp, “one that represents the values and priorities of the people of Washington.”

The state’s children, taxpayers, businesses, college students, farmers, and many others benefited from a week of late night and weekend sessions as bills introduced in the House had be approved by today.

The House Democrats’ most notable successes, representing major education and health care reforms as well as initiatives to spur economic development include:

Children’s Health (SB 5093)

Full-day kindergarten (Budget )

Dropout prevention (HB 1573)

Opportunity Grants (HB 1096)

Simple Majority approval of school district levies (HJR 4204)

Foster care package (HB 1333, 1334, 1287, 1716, 1131, 1922, and 1201)

Energy freedom expansion (HB 1303)

Puget Sound Partnership (HB 1374)

Expanding mental health parity (HB 1460)

Tax cuts for agriculture (HB 1902)

Eminent domain reform (HB 1458)

Community Development Fund (HB 2325)
