Biography

Sherry Appleton has lived in Poulsbo, on Washington's Kitsap Peninsula, for nearly a quarter-century. She served eight years on the Poulsbo City Council.   She was recently appointed to a second term on the Washington State Sentencing Guidelines Commission (SGC), and chairs the SGC's Juvenile Sentencing Committee.  Earlier this year, Sherry was named to the Washington State Public Defense Advisory Committee.

During her career, Sherry has served on the Board of Directors of the Association of Washington Cities, on the Northwest Women’s Law Center Legislative Committee, PAC chair of the NARAL PAC, board member of NARAL, and vice-chair of the State Women’s Political Caucus. In addition, she was elected in 2000, to represent the 1st commissioner district as a freeholder and serve with 20 other elected freeholders to review the Kitsap County Charter.  She’s a former member of the Washington State Commission on Judicial Conduct and advisor to the United States Civil Rights Commission.

Sherry has been an advocate in Olympia for the past ten years. She has worked on many policy issues from criminal justice to health care to education and transportation. She helped pass the patients’ bill of rights and has been involved in negotiations at every level on the many issues that affect citizens of the State.

Blended family of five children, 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
